About the book:

Lizzie, Nila, Alice, Cate, Vivian, and Fiona—six girls about to begin a writing assignment that changes everything. From cute crushes to dances and dresses, they’re recording it all, and so is their teacher. This modern makeover of Jane Austen’s beloved novels follows your favorite stories in a high school setting. Perfect for new fans and devoted Austenites alike!

My Thoughts:

I am a hopeless romantic so of course I would love anything by Jane Austen or anything related to her works.  Naturally I was drawn to The Jane Journals like moth to flame.  Liam Darcy, I Loathe You is written in journal style where there isn’t chapters but new journal entries.  However, this book isn’t just about 1 character plot or development, but rather there are multiple characters writing journal entries and each have their own storyline.  Each character and plotline is a modern day rewrite of an Austen book so if you have read or are familiar with all of Austen’s works, it’s easier to follow each storyline.  There is a handy reference in the back of the book which tells you which character was written as which original Austen character so it’s easier to keep track.

This book was a fun, light read and it was hilarious picturing Austen’s heroines in modern day high school.  However, I found that the reader will get more enjoyment from the book if they have read Austen’s works and since this is a young adult book, I think many teens might not fully grasp what they are reading.    The Jane Journals is very clearly a teen read but if you like a light and quirky read, Liam Darcy, I Loathe You is for you!
