I’m looking at my wardrobe and realize I am seriously lacking jeans and pants. This isn’t new. Being pear shaped, I have always hated my lower half no matter my weight or pant size. Now that I’m sitting at the heaviest I’ve even been, I look back and wish I appreciated my smaller legs when I had the chance. I find myself avoiding looking in a full length mirror because I just can’t face the truth…that I’m out of shape. That my metabolism has slowed down. That I have thunder thighs and a muffin top combo. But most of all I can’t face the truth that I might never look different.
I honestly have been trying to think differently about myself. To love myself because of who I am and not my pant size. It’s hard for me to realize that I can feel beautiful even with my mom body, and that I deserve to be thought of as attractive. I started doing women’s fashion on the blog because I wanted to inspire women of all ages and sizes to feel confident and beautiful so I try to feel that way about myself. It’s a daily struggle. I have tried to start healthy eating habits and increasing my exercise but let’s be real, I have 4 kids to take care of and sometimes it’s all I can do to stay sane. So I reach for Coca-Cola and Netflix to chill out when I should be going running. I think a lot of women can relate to how I feel and I wish I could change that. It hurts me to think one of my friends, family, readers, or even one of my daughters might feel the same way about themselves.
I work in the field of mental health so I know some coping skills to combat negative or hurtful thoughts about myself, one of which is positive self talk. It sounds so simple but saying, “I’m beautiful. I’m kind. I’m attractive. I’m enough,” OUT LOUD really can give yourself the confidence you need to go about your day. Well, when I found She Is clothing, I knew I had to own their Elle Est Forte tee, which translates as She is Strong. She Is company was founded around a scripture found in Proverbs 31:25 which reads, “Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.” She Is uses the modern Bible translation which is “She is clothed in strength and dignity and laughs without fear of the future.” Could you not think of a more powerful message to share with your friends? We are women. We are strong. We laugh. We love. We are enough.
I can’t describe how I feel when I wear my Elle Est Forte tee, it’s like it has magical powers. I just feel more confident, more loving of myself. I also love thinking about others reading my shirt and hoping it brings them confidence too! I want to wear my shirt the next time I work to empower the patient’s I work with to love themselves as they are.
