The Little Mermaid Phenomenon

I was hanging out with one of my childhood (and adulthood) friends and we were laughing about how obsessed our kids were with Frozen (hello, sing along version).  Comparing to our childhood fascinations we decided that their Frozen is our Little Mermaid.  The Little Mermaid was the film we had memorized, acted out and sang aloud at random to.  I remember being with my cousins and walking to a nearby park with a stream, where we would sit on a rock at pretend to flip our fins.

Low and behold, last week I took my boys to the pool where we hang out in the shallow end, splashing and enjoying the 3′ slide when I saw a girl sitting by the side of the pool by herself.  At first I thought she might be hurt, but then I saw her struggling to wiggle into something…  that appeared to be a real life mermaid tail.  I couldn’t stop myself from staring, it was the coolest thing ever.  Who doesn’t want to be a mermaid?  And luckily, I too can become a mermaid.  I found one for sale!

So,  in order to celebrate the newest release from Walt Disney Records I present to you The Legacy Collection.  More than a basic soundtrack, it comes with two discs in a beautiful bound book with stunning illustrated art by Lorelay Bove.  The second disc contains the copies of the demo tracks and working copies of the songwriters Howard Ashman and Alan Menken.
