Jeff’s Favorite Music of 2014

So I have this friend Jeff who worked with me for a few years and is one of those funny guys.  You know the kind.  The ones who are always smiling and making everyone around them laugh.  The ones who will never completely grow up, who can play on the floor with kids and hold their own with the Grandparents.  And one of my favorite things about Jeff is how smitten he is with his wife.  I mean seriously, he makes your husband look bad.

Shortly after meeting Jeff and becoming friends with him on Facebook, I noticed he was posting his favorite songs of the year during December.  I liked quite a few and found we had common taste in music.  The next year, he posted his favorite songs again and I learned it was a tradition for him to post his top favorite songs of the year in countdown style during December until the New Year.  Just this past December, I was in the drive through at Arby’s and I realized Jeff would be posting his countdown any day and I was so excited!  I found quite a few new artists I like and some new songs to dance to.

I guess his brother razes him all the time to blog Jeff’s Favorite Music Countdown, so I decided to do it for him!  Here is Jeff’s Favorite Music of 2014, with commentary by Jeff :)

20. Alex & Sierra – Cheating

“I love this more than I should. Such a happy song with simple lyrics about a less than happy subject.”

19. Zella Day – Hypnotic

“Not usually my type of music but I find myself strangely addicted to it…”

18. David Nail – Kiss You Tonight

“This is the best country song of 2014 so the last on my countdown. There just hasn’t been a ton of great country music for me this year…”

17. Walk The Moon – Work This Body

If 80’s music and today’s music had a child, it would sound like this.”

16. Ed Sheeran – Don’t

“This would have been top 10 if the lyric was ‘don’t *mess* with my heart.'”

15. She & Him – Stay Awhile

“Fun and classy.”

14. Bush – The Only Way Out

“For those that love good ole fashion Rock and Roll, this is for you.”

13. Elle King – Under The Influence

“My favorite new artist of 2014.”

12. Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX – Fancy

“I know, I know. I’m sorry. It is a very guilty pleasure. I can’t help but love this song even though I was in denial for a few months.”

11. Jamie Scott – Unbreakable

“You haven’t heard it. You should. It is great. Even my wife loves it.”

10. Armin van Buuren – Ping Pong

This is among the funnest songs I’ve heard this year. It just gets me moving!”

9. The LEGO Movie – Tegan and Sara feat. The Lonely Island – Everything is AWESOME!!!

“It makes me smile and I love The Lonely Island so naturally it makes the list.”

8. Ingrid Michaelson – Girls Chase Boys

“I love that she is getting more known. I love that this song was so popular. It could never be overplayed. It may have the best intro of the year.”

7. Matt Nathanson – Headphones

“Matt Nathanson seems to be on this list every year.  Warning, the video may make you cry.”

6. Linkin Park – Final Masquerade

“This is the Linkin Park that you were introduced to. This is them at their best. This is the best of rock music that we have nowadays.”

5. Stoney – We Belonged

“I’d be surprised if you’ve heard this song. You should listen to the first minute at least. You’ll be hooked. It is a beautiful song.”

4. Tove Lo – Habits

“While I don’t agree with her methods, I do love the song and the idea of trying to distract yourself when heartbroken.”

3. Lifehouse – Flight

“Lifehouse has a ton of hits but this might be their best. It is among the best ballads of the last few years. If you don’t give it a listen, you’ll be forced to in a few months when the radio stations are over playing it.”

2. Walk The Moon – Shut Up and Dance

This song will get you moving!!! This is among the funnest songs I’ve heard in years.  I’d be surprised to find out that someone doesn’t like it.”

1. Counting Crows – God Of Ocean Tides

“This will not excite many people but this is my kind of song. It has been #1 since the first time that I heard it. It is great to hear the Counting Crows sounding like they used to.”

So what did you think?!  Find a new favorite artist?  A new favorite song?

P.S. I think Jeff is a closet techno dancer/raver.  But hey, I might be too ;)
