Summer is here (or almost here for the Canadians) and its time to stock up on some books to read while travelling to vacation destinations, lounging by the pool, or while kids play at the park. For myself, I am a moody reader – that is, depending on what mood I am in. I read a lot of books (a few a month) so I jump between genres often. SO, I decided to suggest some books based on what mood you are in for your next book. I am always looking for more books to read, so feel free to comment with any suggestions, as well as for my kids.
If you liked you should read by Julie Kibler. Eighty-nine-year-old Isabelle McAllister has a favor to ask her hairdresser Dorrie Curtis. It’s a big one. Isabelle wants Dorrie, a black single mom in her thirties, to drop everything to drive Isabelle from her home in Arlington, Texas, to a funeral near Cincinnati. With no clear explanation why. A tale of friendship across generations, relationships across race, and love in all its forms, this is bound to be a story we will never forget.
“If Julie Kibler’s novel Calling Me Home were a young woman, her grandmother would be , her sister would be and her cousin would be . But even with such iconic relatives, Calling Me Home stands on her own; this novel uncovers a painful past that tells us so much about who we are, where we’re going, and the people who are traveling with us.”
~ Wiley Cash, New York Times bestselling author of A Land More Kind Than Home
If you loved or I recommend by Emma Chapman. Marta has a great life with her husband and son, but finds it hard to remember life before them. She starts having flashbacks to her earlier life that she can’t recall – is she in danger? Or is her mind what is in danger? I love books that encourage us to trust our gut instinct. Its so important, which is why this on my list.
by Charles Belfoure. An architect in 1942 Paris is hired to design a hiding place for a wealthy Jewish man. One of his hiding spaces fails, and the problem of where to hide a Jew becomes person the stakes are high. This story is about doing what is right and what we owe each other a human beings. It combines the architectural story of with the human story of world war 2 of .
Chevy Steven’s novel is about a young woman in jail for a the murder of her sister that she supposedly didn’t commit. Its mystery is in learning about their lives up until that night, and how one day can affect so many peoples lives for years to come. Its suspenseful, intense, and will frustrate you and make you cry. You’re going to love it.
