Redefining Casual – Gold Leather Skirt

Hello darlings!  You might recognize me from my other posts, but more likely you will recognize my writing style as that of Ballerina Fashionista’s.  Yes, I am her mother and the genius behind her style….and I write her posts.  She is a very busy 12 year old who likes fashion but lacks the time to write often.  We shop together, I show her how to mix and match items, she wears clothing fabulously, I take pictures and write.  Pretty good setup here.

As you might have gathered, I have a deep love for fashion.  I always have.  In fact, you’re looking at the winner of Best Dressed Sandcreek Middle School 8th grade class of 2000.  A title I hold in high esteem.  I have been wanting to start a women’s fashion series here on Little Light since the very beginning, but seriously lacked confidence to do so.  I follow quite a few fashion bloggers who are 20 something, size 0, and wear stilettos for a walk in the park and that’s just not me.  While I don’t believe in body shaming, making fun or insulting others for their outward appearance, I have grown tired of seeing what I perceive as an impossible standard for many women including myself.  I was talking with a friend the other day about how even plus size models are healthy, firm, and shapely.  She told me she has been searching for swimsuits that help hide tummies and each one that stated it would minimize was on a thin model.  She said, “What is she trying to hide?  Show me that suit on a water buffalo!”  In that moment, I knew I needed to start this series.

I want to inspire you to dress beautifully no matter age, weight, or shape.  I want you to love yourself as you are and to feel confident in your appearance.  If you are looking for high fashion, you’ve come to the wrong place.  Here you will be seeing real women in real clothes living real lives.

I’m excited to show off our beautiful writers and their personal style.  As the mind behind this new series, I thought I’d go first.

Hi, my name is Katie.  I’m 5’4″, slightly overweight and pear shaped.  I would classify my style as classic, feminine, and preppy with a touch of boheme.  My go to clothing items are fit and flare dresses and flowey midi skirts.

This gold skirt is such a statement piece and as soon as I saw it on , I knew I had to have it.  I wanted to tone it down a bit for everyday wear so I paired it with a graphic tee, wedges, and a statement necklace with matching earrings.  Hint for wearing metallics: don’t wear them if you want to blend in.

And the skirt has pockets….in case you weren’t already sold on it.
