How to Get Rid of Dull Dry Skin

Spring is just around the corner and I just can’t wait for flowers, birds singing, sundresses, and sandals.  However, winter in the dry dessert leaves my skin dull and flaky.  Who wants to break out those cute shorts and tees to reveal lack luster skin?  Not me.  Thank goodness I’ve found the secret to getting soft, supple, dewy skin.  It’s easy, inexpensive, and your skin will feel so wonderful you will be asking people to touch you.  Okay maybe not PEOPLE, but like, your husband or whatever.  Want to know how to get rid of dull, dry skin?  I will tell you my secret…

How to get rid of dull dry skin

What You Need:

  • (natural bristle brush made for dry skin brushing.  Can be found here.)
  • or Loofah
  • or
  • (optional)

Step 1: Before showering, dry brush your entire body starting at your feet and working your way up to your chest.  Work from your arms and chest downward toward the heart.  Work the brush in circular motions, always brushing toward the heart.  Dry brushing will rid your body of flaky skin and help with circulation.  Press as firmly as you prefer though it should never hurt.  Your skin will be a bit red after this but will dissipate while showering.  You can read more about the benefits of dry brushing here.

Step 2: While showering, put a small amount of powdered milk onto an exfoliating cloth and gently rub it over any areas of skin that need a little extra buffering and moisture.  The powdered milk should melt into your skin and help keep the skin moisturized.

Step 3: Toward the end of your shower, rub a little baby oil gel into your skin.  If feels ah-mazing!  Baby oil gel is thicker than regular baby oil and will seal in moisture while creating a barrier so moisture doesn’t escape. A word of warning…you may have seen a pin on Pinterest telling you to shave your legs with baby oil gel.  DON’T DO IT!  The little hairs you shaved off will be stuck all over your legs and the gel will build up in your razor.  I just shave with hair conditioner and follow up with the baby oil gel.  Trust me, it works much better this way.

Instead of using the baby oil gel while in the shower, use coconut oil after you get out.  Just grab a small amount of coconut oil and it should dissolve in your hand.  Rub on like regular lotion.  Use sparingly, because ya know, it’s oil.

Step 4: Right before getting out of the shower, turn the shower to cold then hot, then cold then hot a few times to invigorate the skin and bring more blood to the outer layers.

That’s it!  Easy right?!

Oh and drink water, lots of water.  To be honest, science really doesn’t support the whole “drinking x amount of water for a month took 10 years off my face” thing.  However, we do know that our body needs water to function properly and there is undoubtedly a whole bunch of us who are walking around semi-dehydrated from drinking too much soda and never enough water.  Drinking enough water will flush toxins from your body, help curb cravings, help with proper digestion, and hey it might help your skin and hair.  At the very most it can’t hurt right?

All right, now go show off your amazing skin!
