Spring is just around the corner and the warmer temps and sunny skies have me lusting for a new spring wardrobe. Unfortunately, my wallet doesn’t seem too keen on the idea. Alas, I must be content with a few new items and trying to incorporate them into my existing wardrobe. Being a frugal mother of 4 who likes to dress her family well, I have become somewhat of a pro at creating wardrobe capsules and mixing and matching to get us through each season.
One of my favorite things to do right after fall and spring fashion week, is to check out some of the major shows pictures online and try to find a common theme. The mainstream clothing companies will take that common theme and produce more of the common styles you will start to see pop up on fashion blogs at the turn of the season. Well, this past fall I was checking in to see what I might be wearing come spring and I was surprised to find that many of my fall wardrobe staples would be regulars in my spring rotation! Score!
So before you rush out and blow your rent money on a new wardrobe, check out these 4 fall wardrobe items to transition into spring.
1. Gingham
Trendy Lindy
Gingham had a big moment this fall and I’m not too surprised to find it still in style come spring. Ditch the quilted vests and riding boots and pair your gingham with a tulle skirt and heels instead. Wanting to go a bit more casual? Try your gingham with shorts and combat boots. I think the key to making gingham spring wardrobe worthy is to never wear it with jeans, dark pants, or boots. If you must, white pants are permitted as are rain boots if they are brightly colored or used in conjunction with a skirt. Gingham is so versatile. I’m now considering gingham to be a classic staple in every season like chambray and leopard print.
2. Military Vest or Anorak
I coveted the military vest for months before committing and purchasing one. Then I proceeded to wear it weekly all fall and winter long. I wasn’t sad when I found out military inspired looks will be in this spring. Now I get to wear my vest even more! Instead of wearing your military vest with a sweater and boots, wear it over a lacey sundress instead. Uber casual chic. I’m dying to find a dress like the in this photo. If you know of one, let me know stat! If you want to go the anorak route, wear it with a white shirt or blouse and sandals. Jeans are permitted with the military look but definitely don’t wear boots.
3. Leather
The leather skirt took me by surprise in the fall. I always pictured leather as biker chick and if there is term that would never describe me, biker chick would be it. However, I LOVED the leather skirt. Something about turning something masculine into feminine just makes me DIE! Instead of wearing your leather skirt with a sweatshirt or a tailored blazer, try a top in a bright color like yellow or a white blouse with sandals. Leather leggings are cool when worn with a long black sweater and sneakers.
4. Rain Boots
Chances are you might have indulged and bought some Hunter boots in the fall. If you are one of those stylish lucky ones, don’t put them away just yet! Put away your over-sized cardigans and floppy beanies and pull out those skirts and dresses! Rain boots worn with skirts will have my heart forever. Jeans are permitted with rain boots if worn with a floral blouse or something else spring like.
This 4 fall wardrobe items to transition into spring post was created in partnership with @HP and inspired by the 4 modes of use of the HP x360. The HP x360 can switch from laptop to tablet to tent mode or stand.
I like to use the laptop mode when working on the blog. The full keyboard makes it easier to get things done efficiently.
Tent mode is perfect for watching movies.
Tablet mode shuts off the keyboard and is great for mom or kids to play games on while waiting in carpool for the older children to be released from school.
HP is going on tour with Meghan Trainor who is on her That Bass Tour. You can see the HP x360 in use in her Lips Are Movin’ music video and you can follow on social media with the hashtag #BendTheRules and #ThatBassTour.

Well that is all fun!
I saw some spring rain boots the other day and they were so bright and pretty. I love colourful boots!
