5 Best Boots for Winter

January 14, 2015 by Katie

5 Best Boots for WinterI think it’s kinda funny that stores are breaking out their spring line when we have at least 4 months of winter weather ahead of us.  Here in Idaho, it’s not uncommon to have snow into May and even in June in the mountains.  The good thing about this is you can score some great winter gear on the cheap and sometimes even on clearance as early as January.

If you haven’t invested in a good pair of winter boots yet, now is the time to shop people!  Even if your favorite boots aren’t on clearance, they will still be a good investment and you will get 4 months of wear out of them.  Boots are one of those items where you want to splurge and get a nice pair that will last for years rather than buying a cheap pair that wear out every year.  Trust me.  I too am on the hunt for the perfect winter boots.  These are the 5 best boots for winter I am currently coveting.

1. Plimsoll Herringbone High Bogs

I took a poll on Facebook to see what winter boots my friends would recommend and most suggested Bogs.  One of my friends who lives in Alaska and the other who visited Alaska for a month last year told me Bogs were the way to go.  They are waterproof and due to the rubber, if you are moving around the heat stays trapped in the boots.  Both friends told me your feet will stay dry and warm in Bogs.  I really like the Plimsoll Herringbone High because when traipsing through snow, the higher the boot, the better.  And because it’s herringbone people.

2.

Here in Idaho, Sorel’s are known for being the best winter boots around.  I have many memories of my parents Sorel’s that I thought were hideous and I would never even approach them.  Not anymore, Sorel’s are not only warm winter boots, but they are cute to boot!  Just think of function meets fashion with these.

3.

Did you think Sperry only made boat shoes?  Yup, I was pretty surprised too.  These Saltwater Duck Boots have rubber soles which will keep your feet dry and warm if you are walking around.  And the plaid?!  I DIE!  However, I feel like these boots are best worn in climates with warmer winters that don’t see the temperature drop below freezing and stay there.  Perhaps places that have rainy winters.

4.

Okay, so I would have never considered these boots until Pinterest led me to believe they are fashionable.  Thanks to all those preppy fashionable girls I fell in love with the Bean Boots.  With a gingham plaid and quilted vest?  Kill me now.  And the best part is you can get plain old duck boots, or the ones with gortex lining for colder places.  My brother in law is an avid hunter and braves the cold Idaho weather to hunt deer, elk, moose, bear and everything else in between if he draws a tag for it.  He swears by his Bean Boots so I figure if it’s good for a rugged Idaho hunter, it’s good for me too.

5.

Oh Hunter Boots, how I love you.  Let me count the ways.  Hunter Boots ooze fashion and you can’t visit a fashion blog without seeing Hunter Boots somewhere.  My sister in law, Brooke, got some for her birthday with the sock insert and said they are great for walking around in Canadian winter.  These are likely the boots I am going to buy if only for their versatility.  I like that you can wear them as rain boots but they are warm enough for running around in the snow with the sock insert.  These might not be playing in the snow boots, but they will work for throwing on and running errands in the snow while wanting to look fashionable.

There you have it!  5 of the best winter boots that are functional and fashionable.  Which ones are you lusting for?
