Hello, my name is Amanda and I am a Pinterest Addict. I am also a Christmas Addict, but luckily for me those two addictions work quite nicely together. You can find pretty much anything christmas related on pinterest, I swear. I know have so many Christmas projects on my Christmas board. I may need a bigger house to decorate with all the amazing finds.
One reason I love the Christmas season is that it gives us a nice reminder to give to others. I love thinking of all the people who have touched my life and thinking of fun ways to thank them for that influence this time of year. But I have a tendency to go overboard. I want to thank EVERYONE! I want to spread holiday magic everywhere! But as a young family with three young boys our budget doesn’t always allow me to do whatever I want. Pinterest to the rescue! I found the sweetest little Birch ornaments that I was able to make almost 100 ornaments for $6… yes it is that amazing!
If you search Pinterest for Birch Ornaments you will get a massive list of amazing looking projects. Go ahead and try it you will be truly inspired. Here are a couple that jumped out at me:
Really your options are endless… but I needed tons of little thank you/christmas gifts for the often under appreciated teachers and support staff at my monsters’ wonderful school so I did ornaments.
Now I am pretty lucky, I live in a beautiful neighbourhood that just so happens to have several wooded areas with some very nice birch trees. Also there was a blessing in disguise. One day there was a freak snow storm before the trees lost all their leaves, this resulted in several branches being broken off the gorgeous trees. So once the cleared up I took my little monsters on a nice adventure nature walk and we collected a ton of these branches. Then my awesome husband cut them in to 1 inch think circles for me.
This is where I combined the two pins that inspired me on this project. I loved on Shanty 2 Chic because she simply stamped the initials. Im all about easy. But I didn’t have any cool letter stamps that I liked for this project. So I decide to use my wood burner. Its also very simple but just takes a little more time.
So thats when I set to work. My littlest monster helped me line up all the circles and, once he stepped a safe distance away, I drilled a hole in top of each one. Then I went to work drawing the Last name initial of whoever was on my list onto the wood in pencil. I thought about just doing free hand with my wood burner but that stressed me out so I used my pencil first.
Then It was time to pull out the wood burner. Once that was done I threaded some twine through the hole and added a little wooden bead (which was my only item I needed to purchase for this project, everything else I had on hand).
I was wanting to keep with the rustic theme that the wood inspired in me. But I will say I love the simple red ribbon on the snowflake ones done by Design Mom.
So there you have it a simple and inexpensive little gift for someone on your list. I made a huge amount, a bunch for the school staff plus I made a few for other friends and family members to use as a gift tag once I get their gifts wrapped!
Pinterest helped me spread some christmas cheer, kept me way under budget, and it was easy and fast! I’d call that a pinterest win for sure.
