As a tween, we often want to embrace a trend that we see older girls wearing. However, our bodies are still in transition to becoming adult bodies and we might find a certain trend doesn’t look right on our in-between bodies. This is exactly how I feel about the maxi skirt. They look so cute on older girls and hey, they feel like wearing pajamas so obvious plus there. But seeing how we are kind of short and all, maxi skirts can emphasize the shortness. Also, maxi skirts are one of those items that has to be styled right so you avoid looking sloppy.
Well, last spring I was at Justice and was in a dress/skirt mood. This maxi skirt was an impulse buy that I didn’t wear much in the summer because nothing looked quite right with it. It wasn’t till I was in school uniform buying mode that I realized a white collared shirt would be perfect! I added some gold bangles, gold pyramid earrings, a brown braided belt, and some strappy sandals to complete the look.
Maxi Skirt: Justice
White Collared Shirt: White Strappy Sandals: Shoe Carnival ()
Brown Braided Belt: Lands End
Gold Pyramid Earrings and Gold Bangles: Claire’s
Necklace: Gift from Grandma (similar)
I love how the top is structured and the bottom is casual. It’s all business on top, party on the bottom. Now that it’s winter, I wear boots instead of the sandals because cold feet is EWWWW (think Sara without the H). Anyway, I’m glad I didn’t completely write off maxi skirts or I never would have created this outfit. Now that I showed you how to style a maxi skirt, go pull out yours that has been hanging in your closet since last summer! You can thank me later.
