My husband and I have crazy work schedules which makes finding time for date nights ridiculously difficult. He works 7 days on and has 7 days off and I work the Thursday and Fridays evenings on his days off. We like to reserve Saturdays for family time and that doesn’t leave us much time to spend alone, just the 2 of us. After months of feeling lonely and like our marriage had taken a back seat to life, we sat down and tried to come up with ways we could focus on our marriage with our hectic schedules.
We decided that we would have a date night every Friday during Josh’s 7 on because when I work evenings, I don’t get home till midnight. However, as he works 12 hour shifts and would be heading to work Saturday morning, bright and shiny at 6 a.m., our dates would have to be in town and fairly quick. We also decided that at least once a month, we would go on a lengthy date on a Saturday, and the rest would have to be at home date nights.
I was planning our date last week and my original plans didn’t pan out (saving that idea for another post). I really wanted to do something other than the usual dinner and rent a movie. Josh insisted on dinner because he was craving a steak (that man is always craving steak), but he allowed me to choose our other activity for the evening.
YOU GUYS! PHOTO BOOTH!
I remembered the old photo booth at the mall that I used to walk by every day when I was working at Aeropostale during college. We drove to mall and hopped on in. We were trying to figure out how to choose our theme and it wasn’t working properly. Suddenly we see a “look here,” screen and we were like, “Crap! Make a face!” It was seriously the best 5 minutes we spent the whole day. We had a good laugh and I spent the entire drive home staring at those pictures. We both decided we would have to do it again and next time, we would bring props.
Remember that date night doesn’t always have to be lengthy or over the top. 5 minutes in a photo booth is all you need to feel closer as a couple. At the very least you will have a good laugh and those 5 minutes will pull you through until the next date night.
