“Our kids will never experience Holiday decorations,” my husband said to me while at Target the other week. Yes, even my husband knows that I was born without a creative bone in my body. When it comes to Holidays or entertaining I can plan, organize, dress the part, and prepare ALL the food down to dessert. Ask me to decorate and my head will explode. However, this Halloween I decided to prove him wrong.
The idea hit me while looking at my friend Holly’s blog, My Sister’s Suitcase. Holly had made these darling tassels for her daughter’s bed skirt. When the idea came, it seriously felt like I had neurons exploding in my brain! I could turn white tassels into ghosts and string them together to make a banner for Halloween!
These were the easiest things to make that I sort of wondered whether it was blog worthy. I talked myself into it purely to prove that you don’t have to be the craftiest person in the world to dress up your house, even if it is only one wall.
I followed Holly’s directions for making the tassels, tied the tops of the tassels together, and used a black sharpie to draw the eyes and mouths. I thought about cutting out eyes and mouths from black felt and hot gluing them on, but I laughed it off because ya know, I’m not a masochist. If you want to go that route, by all means do so you perfectionist you.
I picked up some black and white garland and these cute wall decals at Target to help round out the look. I think a felt bat garland would complement the ghost tassels as well.
I’m very happy to say I proved my husband wrong! My kids get to experience Halloween decorations this year! Where do I apply for the Mom of the Year award?
