Ballerina Fashionista: What I Wore CopyKat

If I had to define my style, I would say it is classic and feminine with a touch of bohemian.  Items that fit into those categories catch my eye and I can see them come together to create a whole outfit.  However, I have a very difficult time creating outfits out of pieces that outside my norm.  This is where I become a copykat.

First, let’s consider the rules of copying an outfit or style:

  1. It’s okay to copy another person’s outfit piece for piece if they live far enough away you would never run into them casually.
  2. If you really like a certain item in a close friend’s outfit, ask them if they wouldn’t mind if you got it too.
  3. Consider copying someone’s style, but not piece for piece.  Consider wearing the same type of clothing in different fabrics, prints, or colors.

Glad we got that covered.

What I Wore CopyKat

Okay, so we have this big family get together every summer with my dad’s side of the family and my oldest cousin, who is 18, is beautiful.  She is one of those -thrown on a tee shirt and look fabulous- types.  Well, one day she was dressed in what is best defined as polished grunge.  She had on a black graphic tank, with a black and white, buffalo plaid flannel shirt, shorts and high top Converse.  I personally would never look at a plaid shirt and put those pieces together.  I am more likely to tuck that shirt in a high waisted, tulle skirt.

Well, just the other day my mom was looking through my closet and pulled out a black and white, buffalo plaid flannel shirt I got at a clothing swap last year.  It hit me.  I had all the pieces to copy my cousin’s style!

With the help of my mom, we created our look on Polyvore.

Here is the finished look.

Graphic Tee – PS by Aeropostale – Similar DIY version
Plaid, Flannel Shirt – Thrifted
Shorts – Epic Threads at Macys
Combat Boots – Top Moda on Amazon
Cubic Zirconia Studs – Kohls

While this outfit isn’t something I would normally wear, I was surprised to find that I loved it!  It goes to show that going out of your comfort zone can pay off in a stylish way.

XOXO,
