Easy DIY Card Holder For Kids

I love to play card games.  In fact, love may be a gross understatement.  I think the best free fun you can have with a group of any size is to play a card or board game.  When I get together with all of my Idaho cousins we all sit around my aunts kitchen table and play a game of nertz.  My cousin Megan and I get quite competitive with each other, and I am always really proud of myself for beating her to a card.

Now that we are moms, and get togethers involve nertz with nieces, nephews, and our kids with ages from 4-20 plus all the adults it has become more about including everyone and making sure that everyone has a good time.  Its more important that everyone has fun so we can play again and again.  We don’t even keep score.  A winner is declared for the round and then the game starts over.

This 4th of July involved teaching my 5 year old son.  I didn’t realize how hard it is for kids to hold cards in their hands, so I was pretty pleased to find this neat little device at the store. At only $3 I thought it was a good deal. It is a blue plastic triangle with a spring closure.  Here are some pictures of how it works:

Well, Megan told me that she makes her own! With an extended family as large as ours I love having these DIY card holders on hand.  They work just as good and you can make them for free with items used around the house.

Here is how she made them:

  1. Gather yogurt, sour cream or butter jar lids that are the same size.
  2. Match 2 lids of the same size together
  3. Punch a hole in the middle
  4. Attach lids with a brad, tops together.
  5. Give to your kids and enjoy!
