Delicious Molten Chocolate Cake

When I think of the perfect Valentine’s Day dessert I immediately think of chocolate and raspberries….to be more specific, I think of a molten chocolate cake hot out of the oven with a gooey center, big dollop of whipped cream and fresh raspberries. Are you drooling yet?

molten lava4Now that you are, I’m going to share with you how to make this impressive dessert for your sweetheart. But before I do, since we are discussing sweethearts and all, it’s time for a walk down memory lane… Years ago my husband and I went on a Caribbean cruise to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. The first night I looked at the dessert menu I saw “warm chocolate melting cake” and knew I had to order it. It was everything a dessert should be and I was hooked. For the rest of the cruise, try as I may, I could not veer away from ordering this scrumptious dessert. It got to the point where the waiter just knew to bring it out and save the time of handing me a dessert menu to look over! Fast forward to us getting home and I was having withdrawals!!! I needed to find a recipe that could ease the heartbreak. However, chocolate molten cakes have always been a “fancy, can only get it in a restaurant” kind of dessert in my mind so I was intimidated at the thought of making it at home.

I stumbled across a recipe on the Kraft website for a Molten Chocolate Cake and thought maybe this could be it. After seeing the ingredients and how easy it appeared I figured I would give it a try. This recipe did not disappoint. It is straightforward, easy to follow, requires minimal ingredients and effort, and did I mention it is delicious?!? I have been making this recipe for years now and it is my “go-to” dessert if I want to impress someone. I love that the ingredients are things I always have in my pantry and fridge so if an occasion arises I can whip this up in no time. Let’s be honest, sometimes that “special occasion” is just me needing a chocolate fix after a long day with the kids! ;) If on the off chance you end up with leftovers, I love storing them in my fridge and eating them the next day. The texture changes from a moist, gooey cake to dense fudgy cake. Both are heavenly! Enough talking, let’s get baking already!
