Dress Up Dollar Store Valentine’s

So for Valentines I wanted to show how you can dress up some dollar store items to make a really cute package.

My kids really like the box valentines and I like that by writing their names they help them print better.  Its great for teaching kids spacing when they write there names, but I just don’t love character valentines.   Making valentines every year with my kids is one of my favorite activities to do with them,  so we made a compromise. Kids get Cars,  Star Wars,  and Sofia The First if I get to put it in something cuter.

I found these cute craft bags and tags from target. The tags are actually place cards but they close the bag so nothing spills. I let each of my kids go pick out small toys from the birthday section where they come in packages.  I like doing this because I feel like the toys are things that won’t be repeated as often as those from the valentines section.  I used a gold sharpie to personalize the tags and attached it with washi tape.  Included for the girls were some hair clips made of left over glitter bows from Christmas.

One of my sons loves the traditional paper valentines, so he chose some heart bags from the dollar store, filled them with some suckers and stamps.  The stamps were also from the birthday section and if you bought 4 you got a $5 target gift card!  How is that for a happy valentine?  The card said “You Got My Stamp Of Approval Valentine!”

Dress Up Dollar Store Valentine #3

My other son wanted to repeat what we did last year, which was a can of pop.  Not wanting to repeat myself, I switched it up a bit.  Last year had Crush Soda with his picture saying “I Have A Crush On You Valentine!” so this year we wrote “I am SODA-lighted that you are in my class!”  We included a cute straw and put it in a cellophane bag.

So my top 3 tips for amping up Dollar Store Valentine’s:
  • put them in a some sort of container or bag
  • attach a prize ( find the bulk ones in the birthday aisle or cans of pop)
  • put a coordinating tag with it…which can either be a printable or a handwritten note. ( find these in the home office or birthday/stationary/label sections I love to use my own handwriting…so sometimes I just go that route.
